The BE READY Project Family

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of planning and investing in research and innovation well before a health crisis arises. Recognising the need for a coordinated, evidence-based European approach to future pandemics, the EU has launched a phased initiative under the Horizon Europe programme to lay the foundations to implement the upcoming European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness.

BE READY: Laying the Foundation

Horizon Europe project 06/2022-05/2025

BE READY is funded by the European Union under Grant Agreement No 101057795.

Since its launch in June 2022, the Coordination and Support Action (CSA) BE READY has done the groundwork for a robust and integrated research area focused on pandemic preparedness. Its key output has been a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), designed to align research and policy priorities at both national and EU levels. Another key achievement has been the creation of a Pandemic Preparedness and Response Observatory, which maps relevant policies, infrastructures, funding mechanisms, and key stakeholders across countries.

With 25 partners from 16 countries, including Statens Serum Institut from Denmark, BE READY fosters a cross-disciplinary, international collaboration, ensuring Europe is better prepared to address health emergencies through a unified and strategic approach.

BE READY PLUS: Strengthening and Expanding

Horizon Europe project 01/2025-12/2025

BE READY is funded by the European Union under Grant Agreement No 101195079.

BE READY PLUS is a one-year Coordination and Support Action (CSA) that builds on the work and results of BE READY. It is designed to ensure a smooth transition from strategic planning to the operational phase of the upcoming Partnership. The project focuses on finalising the governance structure and preparing for the implementation of the Partnership. BE READY PLUS will prepare the way for a sustainable EU-wide network of networks of clinical research sites, ready to activate in response to health emergencies. This work also includes deepening stakeholder collaboration and ensuring the coordination of national efforts through harmonised procedures.

The project expands to include 29 partners from 21 countries, including Statens Serum Institut in Denmark, broadening the scope from that in BE READY and enhancing coordination with the European Commission, HERA, and other key actors.
