Centre for Biosecurity & Biopreparedness
The Center for Biosecurity and Biopreparedness (CBB) is the national authority for biosecurity and poliovirus containment, and maintains a 24/7 capability to respond to a biological incident whether of accidental or malicious origins.
CBB was established in 2001 under the Ministry of the Interior and Health of Denmark and is part of SSI.
Certain biological substances, process equipment and technology have peaceful uses in research and industrial enterprises, but can also be misused for the production and use of biological weapons. These materials are considered “dual-use” and subject to control. CBB is the authority in Denmark that issues licenses for the possession, use and storage of controlled material, enforces proper compliance cf. the Danish biosecurity legislation for human and animal pathogens, as well as provides guidance and education in biosecurity.
CBB also administers the executive order on control measures against poliovirus and material that potentially contains infectious poliovirus.
In the event of suspicion of theft, misuse, loss or uncontrolled release of controlled biological substances, you must immediately contact CBB's 24-hour security on telephone: + 45 7020 6606.
If you suspect a bioterrorism incident, call 112.
The head of the center is Director Vibeke Østergaard Thomsen.
