Health Diplomacy at SSI

Statens Serum Institut (SSI) supports the Danish Ministry of the Interior and Health’s international Strategy for international collaboration and contributes actively to the Danish Government’s Life Science Strategy towards 2030. In addition, SSI is a partner in Strategic Sector Coorporation programs in India, Ukraine and Tanzania on behalf of Denmark.

The strategy for international collaboration outlines a number of tools to foster coorporation with key partners. Some of these are outlined below.  

SSI’s Contribution to the Danish Life Science Strategy

SSI supports the Danish Government’s goal of strengthening an innovative life science sector through international partnerships and knowledge exchange in Germany, United Kingdom, Norway and in the United States. Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) Projects

SSI is an active contributor to Denmark’s Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) – a government-to-government instrument supporting sustainable capacity development in partner countries. Through SSC, SSI provides peer-to-peer expertise to strengthen public health institutions in areas aligned with Denmark’s international strategic priorities. Current SSC projects:

  • Laboratory and surveillance capacity building
  • Bioinformatics and genomic epidemiology support
  • Training, guidelines, and systems strengthening within AMR and preparedness

SSI´s International Partnerships and Collaboration

SSI has a long-standing tradition of collaborating internationally with public health institutes, international organisations, academia, and the life science sector. These collaborations reflect our role as both a national preparedness institution and an international scientific partner.

SSI contributes expertise within infectious disease preparedness, One Health, antimicrobial resistance, vaccine development, biosecurity, and digital public health solutions. Our specialists participate in global networks through WHO, ECDC, HERA, EU research consortia, and UN-related mechanisms.SSI plays an active role in major European health initiatives that support research, preparedness, and innovation. Through these partnerships, SSI contributes Danish expertise to strengthen Europe-wide systems for surveillance, laboratory capacity, AMR monitoring, vaccine research, and emergency response.
