Responsibilities

Overall responsible for the activities of the Department of Virology & Microbiological Preparedness, including:

• Denmark’s central and reference laboratory for virology and microbiological preparedness in humans and animals.
• Responsible for diagnostics, surveillance, and national preparedness for both human and veterinary viruses.
• Performs serological and molecular diagnostics of other microorganisms.
• Operates the national sentinel system, the national wastewater surveillance program, and the scalable national high-capacity molecular diagnostic laboratory.
• Provides expert advice to healthcare professionals and authorities.
• Research-based diagnostics, surveillance, and preparedness, including virus characterization, immunology, and medical virology.
