SSI has state of the art laboratories and animal facilities. We offer design, planning and execution of in vivo experimental infection studies. These models can be used for studying host pathogen interactions, host responses, bacterial virulence and antibiotic treatment.

At Statens Serum Institut (SSI) we have a long-term experience in quantitative detection of virus and virus-specific antibodies using the haemagglutination (HA) assay and the haemagglutination inhibition (HAI) assay.

Detection of viruses

The unbiased DNA microarray testing has emerged as a promising new technology for broad-spectrum virus detection (metagenomic diagnostic), making it possible to test for the presence of thousands of viruses simultaneously without having a clear predetermination of what to look for. This is convenient e.g. in diagnostic for disease syndromes, in hematological patients, in travellers with exotic virus, and difficult to diagnose patients. We have developed a microarray platform, Pan-Virus Array.

Statens Serum Instititut (SSI) has about 35 years of experience in developing and producing monoclonal antibodies and more than 100 years of experience in production of polyclonal antibodies. SSI uses different species of animals for this purpose.
