The Danish Minister of Health initiates HPV catch-up programmes for boys and young men

As from 1 February 2020, the present HPV vaccination programme for boys is extended by two catch-up programmes. One of the programmes is targeted at boys, the other at young men who feel attracted to men.

On 1 September last year, the free offer of HPV vaccination was extended to also apply to boys. The offer covered all boys who turned 12 years old on 1 July 2019 or later.

Now, the Danish Minister of Health, Magnus Heunicke, has decided to extend the offer. As from 1 February, two new catch-up programmes come into force. One of the programmes is targeted at boys, the other at young men who feel attracted to men.

More specifically, the two programmes cover:

  • Boys who turned 12 years old in the period from 1 January 2018 to 30 June 2019 (born in the period 1 January 2006 to 30 June 2007). That means boys who today are between 12½ and 14 years of age.

  • Young men who feel attracted to men and who turn 18 years old on 1 January 2020 or later, but are not 26 years old before 1 January 2020 (born in the period from 1 January 1994 to 31 December 2003).

Temporary offer

Both programmes are temporary. The offer ends on 31 December 2021.
