English webpage for the national wastewater surveillance of SARS-CoV-2
The webpage for the national wastewater surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 is now available in English. On this webpage, it is possible to find results and download data from the surveillance.
For more than two years, weekly results from the national surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in the wastewater have been published at Statens Serum Institut’s Danish webpage. The virus SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, can be found in the feces of some infected individuals and consequently in wastewater. Hence, by surveilling the SARS-CoV-2 concentrations, we can monitor changes in the level of infection in the population, both nationally and regionally.
Currently, 29 wastewater samples are taken twice a week from treatment plants across Denmark. The number of RNA-copies in each sample are quantified in SSI laboratories using RT-qPCR, and subsequently, the results are validated and processed.
National and regional results, as well as results from individual sites, are made available to download on the webpage.
