Acute and chronic hepatitis C in Denmark, 2018

The number of hepatitis C cases notified in Denmark is decreasing.

It is still mainly IV drug users who are notified with hepatitis C, but homosexually infected HIV-positive men continue to constitute a stable share of the notified cases. It is likely that the decrease in the number of notified cases is observed because the majority of the persons who became infected in the 1970s and 1980s due to IV drug use have been diagnosed in the course of the subsequent period.

We recommend continuing the screening of IV drug users, persons from high-endemic countries and HIV positives, particularly owing to the improved treatment options.
