National surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater

The virus SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19, can be found in the feces of some infected individuals and consequently in wastewater. By examining wastewater for the presence of SARS-CoV-2, it is possible to understand the level of infection in the area from which the wastewater is collected.

The figure below shows the concentration of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater samples collected from all 29 sampling sites, along with the number of new hospital admissions due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Denmark.

In week 16, the SARS-CoV-2 concentration in the wastewater remains at a low level.

The growth rate is therefore still not being published, as the low concentration results in increased uncertainty in the calculations. The figure illustrates the concentration of SARS-CoV-2 in the wastewater along with the weekly number of hospitalized patients due to covid-19
