Surveillance and preparedness

As a key player in the Danish infectious disease preparedness strategy, Statens Serum Institut handles infectious disease surveillance at the national and international levels and supports preparedness initiatives through specialized diagnostic and reference laboratory functions, advice to the health care system and public authorities, planning and implementation of biosecurity and biological preparedness measures, and international collaborations.

Statens Serum Institut is also charged with carrying out Denmark’s national congenital disease screening program. Through routine newborn screening, these diseases are diagnosed early, allowing for effective treatment.
